Amenorrhoea is the term for the lack of periods, which is defined if:
-a girl does not get her period by age 16 or,
-a woman is not getting her period for at least three months even though she is not pregnant
Amenorrhoea is also a symptom of irregular periods. Excessive exercising, eating disorders, physical or psychological stress, tumours, and hormonal problems can lead amenorrhoea, especially to women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Amenorrhoea is not a disease and it can be treated by doctors with medications and lifestyle changes. If you feel you may have amerorrhea, contact your healthcare provider.
