Semen is normally whitish-grey (cream) color and it composed of amino acid, calcium, protein and minerals. Generally 1 millimeter of healthy semen includes a least 15 million to 200 million sperms.

Color of semen can be changed depending on the food they eat and their living style. However, temporary color changes in semen due to living style changes are harmless.   • Yellow semen

The color of the semen from the man who has just urinated is white with a yellow tint. It is because semen passing through the urethra can get mixed together with leftover urine. Hence, it is harmless to have yellowish semen sometimes but if it turns into dark yellow color, it can be caused by urinary infection, prostate infection.

  • Pink, brown, red semen

If color of semen is pink and blood color (red), it is a sign of fresh blood. The density of the color can be different depending on the amount of blood include in semen. Unlike yellowish semen, dark color semen can be caused by health problems. People with following health problems are likely to have pink, brown and red semen.

  • Patients who have gone through prostate surgery
  • High blood pressure
  • People who are infected with sexually transmitted infections like gonorrhea, syphilis and Chlamydia
  • Prostate cancer, urethral cancer
  • Black semen

If the color of semen is black, it is caused by old blood that has been in your body for a long time. People who have had spinal cord injuries for different reasons and who have high level of heavy metals in the blood have black semen.

When to see the doctor?
